Converted Closet

Quilted Cape-Top and Skirt | Refashioned

Using the quilt’s pattern to influence her design, Kate has converted this special vintage throw into a bespoke cape-top and scallop-hemmed skirt. Every element of the quilt has been created by hand which makes even the fabric of the garment precious and unique.  Kate’s unique design for the top includes ‘inner sides’ and scalloped edges to match the drop-waisted skirt. With her exceptional eye for flattering tailoring, Kate has designed the skirt to hug the hips before flaring out for maximum volume. This hand-made outfit comes with a matching skinny scarf which converts the shape of the top to look high-necked.

Kate McGuire maximizes upon her expert sewing skills to convert garments from their initial cut into something reimagined and one-of-a-kind. She redesigns a garment into a cape-like quilted topper and a full midi skirt, featuring a patchwork floral design of blues, greens and pinks, finished with a scalloped, circular hem. Accompanied by a matching circular pouch, it's perfect to throw on over any monochromatic look to make it ultra-chic and extra playful.

This is a one-off couture garment refashion by Kate McGuire.
